It’s been a while. The shop has had a quiet period, but things have been moving in the background and this feels like the right moment to bring it all back together properly.
Chris Hatch Art is relaunching with a new body of work, a new website, and a clearer sense of what I’m making and why. The focus is geometric and mandala-based design: precise, intricate, and, I hope, the kind of thing you want to keep looking at.
The first new range to arrive is the Psychedelic series. Seven designs so far, each one sitting somewhere between mathematical structure and something a little more psychedelic. They’re available now as ceramic mugs through the Etsy shop, with more to follow as the range develops.
Tote bags are coming next. I’ve been working on bringing the Psychedelic designs into that format and they’re due to land in April, so if mugs aren’t your thing, it’s worth keeping an eye out.
Cornwall has a long and serious relationship with art, from the Newlyn School painters working in the fishing villages in the late 1800s, to Barbara Hepworth’s studio in St Ives, to the generations of artists the landscape has drawn here ever since. I’m not putting myself anywhere near that lineage, but it matters to me that I’m making work here. There’s something in the light and the sense of being at the edge of things that gets into whatever you’re doing, whether you intend it or not.
